VITAMIN C - ASCORBIC ACID

Vitamin C also known as Ascorbic acid is one of the most versatile of the vitamins we need to sustain life. It is a very good antioxidant vitamin and boosts immunity and to fight cancer and infection.

Role in the Body

Most significant functions of Vitamin C is the formation of collagen, a protein substance that cements the cells together, failure to synthesise collagen results in delayed healing of wounds. A deficiency of Vitamin C induces weakness, poor healing ability. Its deficiency also causes soft and bleeding gums, loose teeths, joint pain. It lowers resistance to all infections and may lead to premature ageing and thyroid insufficiency. A prolonged deficiency may cause scurvy.

Toxicity
